Abstract
part of the scalp, in the distribution of the greater, lesser, or third occipital nerves. Most are considered idiopathic,
but it can be caused by trauma or injury, inflammation, tumor or compression of the occipital nerves or their roots,
or by a compressive or isolated upper cervical cord lesion. We report a rare case of occipital neuralgia as the only
presenting symptom of upper cervical myelitis. Clinicians should consider cervical spine magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI) in patients with occipital neuralgia, especially when the symptoms persist with no response to medication.
